Middletown is home to the Appoquinimink School District which is consistently ranked among the best school districts in the state of Delaware.  It currently serves more than 10,000 students in grades pre-K through 12th grade.  Since 2000, Appoquinimink has opened 10 new schools and is on schedule to complete a new elementary school in Whitehall in 2019 and a new middle and high school at the Fairview Campus in 2020.  Thanks to the backing from parents, homeowners and the community at large, the educational facilities are among the best in the tri-state area.

Recreation & Parks Around Middletown

Silver Lake Park and the Charles E. Price Memorial Park are two wonderful options for getting outside and enjoying the fresh air.  Silver Lake has many options including Silver Lake Pool, and several sports fields. Charles E. Price Memorial is a 100-acre park featuring walking trails, picnic pavilions, a catch-and-release fishing pond a dog park and several playgrounds and sports fields.

A short drive away is Lums Pond State Park which offers the largest fresh water pond in Delaware with fishing and boating, miles of woodland trails for hiking and mountain biking, picnic areas, sports fields, and the every-popular Go Ape ziplining course.  Another local attraction for the outdoor adventure seeker is the Mike Castle Trail along the C&D Canal which covers 12.4 miles from the Maryland state line to Delaware City and is popular to cycling enthusiasts and runners.

For something a little more hair-raising, visit the Frightland Haunted Attractions each year from late September through early November.  Frightland is ranked one of the top ten “Scariest Haunted Attractions in America” and includes several haunted houses and a haunted hayride.  During other parts of the year, Frightland hosts a full amusement park complete with rides and carnival games.

This bustling town has seen rapid growth, but still maintains its small town feel.  On of the favorites events among the locals is The Middletown Olde-Tyme Peach Festival held each year in August which features the annual Peach Parade, live music, Peach Pie Contest, local vendor booths and lots of activities for the kids.

There’s also favorites like Dutch County Farmers Market, the Everett Theater and the Gibby Center for the Arts where you can enjoy some traditional Amish heritage or take in a local theater production.  The New Castle County Happenings Quarterly Publication is a great place to check for local clubs, meetings, and events.
