Curriculum Opportunities

Using innovative practices in instruction and development, the Appoquinimink School District offers a variety of curriculum opportunities. With an expansive music program, from elementary through high school, unique offerings include courses in guitar, keyboarding, music history, percussion and AP Music Theory. An emphasis on international studies and world awareness, six different languages are available to study at the high school level, including French, Spanish, American Sign Language, Japanese, Italian and Chinese (Mandarin). Rigorous study in well-known subject areas, such as math and science, is also provided.

Offering high academic standards, top facilities and both a locally and globally-focused curriculum, the Appoquinimink School District maintains adherence to the Common Core State Standards, Learning Focused Strategies and Strategic Plan. Providing an annual report, student enrollment and performance on the state’s standardized tests, AP tests and SAT tests are all continuously recorded and released publicly.

Based on the 2017 annual report, PSAT and SAT participation rate was 92.5%. In further preparation for college, 24 different AP courses are offered. Easing the transition from classroom to college and career, Appoquinimink offers a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program for career exploration in top fields, such as computer science, engineering and graphic design.

Sports Programs

Appoquinimink School District includes two high schools, Appoquinimink High School and Middletown High School. With consistent facility upgrades, both high schools offer a variety of sports and wellness programs. Maintaining large auditoriums and gymnasiums, all-weather tracks, tennis courts and multiple fields, popular sports include football, soccer, field hockey and lacrosse.

Nutrition & Menus

Using careful meal planning and menu analysis, Appoquinimink schools encourage healthy eating habits by providing nutritional meal choices. Emphasizing fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy and whole grains, food is baked and carefully checked for sugar and fat content. Making sure every meal provides at least one third the daily recommended allowance of vitamins, proteins, minerals and fats, portion sizes are increased from middle school to high school. Designed to meet the needs of a diverse student body, religious and social preferences are accommodated. A completely vegetarian menu is also offered.
